Stopwatch

How to use the online stopwatch

A stopwatch counts time up from zero, so you can measure exactly how long something takes. Press start when you begin, press stop when you finish, and read the elapsed time — down to hundredths of a second. It is the tool for timing laps, drills, chores and study sprints.

Start, lap and reset

  1. Press Start to begin counting from zero.
  2. Press Lap to record a split without stopping the clock — great for laps or rounds.
  3. Press Stop to pause, then Reset to clear it back to zero.

What the stopwatch is good for

  • Timing running or swimming laps and comparing your splits.
  • Measuring how long a chore really takes before you set a timer for it next time.
  • Keeping rounds even in a workout or a classroom game.
  • Checking how long a page, recipe step or task takes.

Tip: Your time and laps are saved automatically. If you close the tab by accident and reopen it, the stopwatch is still running where you left off.

Stopwatch or timer?

They are opposites. A stopwatch counts up to measure time that has already passed. A timer counts down from a length you set and rings at zero. If you want a reminder at a set clock time, use the alarm clock instead.

Online stopwatch questions

What does the Lap button do?

It records a split time while the stopwatch keeps running. Each lap is added to a list, so you can compare rounds without ever stopping the clock.

Does the stopwatch keep my laps if I leave the page?

Yes. The current time and all your laps are saved in your browser, so you can close and reopen the page without losing them.

How accurate is the online stopwatch?

It shows time to hundredths of a second. You can adjust how many decimal places it displays in the settings.
